Olympia Snowe Women’s Leadership Institute Welcomes Kate Elmes to its Staff

The Olympia Snowe Women’s Leadership Institute has welcomed Kate Elmes to its staff as Director of Philanthropy.

Elmes joins the Institute in raising the confidence and aspirations of high school girls by helping them develop the skills needed to be leaders in their lives, families, careers, and communities. The Institute’s accredited program currently serves 555 Olympia’s Leaders annually, across all 16 Maine counties.

In her new role, Elmes is focused on building meaningful relationships with Institute supporters whose contributions make the program possible and keep it at no cost to participants. She is working to strengthen and expand the Institute’s financial resources—helping individuals, foundations, and corporations make a meaningful impact through an investment in the state’s next generation of women leaders.

Prior to joining the Institute, Elmes served as Deputy Director at Trekkers and Development Officer at the Island Institute. She holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in Women’s Studies and Political Science from Lesley University. Elmes lives in Damariscotta with her husband, daughter, and two dogs.

Elmes commented,

“As a long-time admirer of the work of the Institute, I am deeply honored to join the team and look forward to working with our incredible network of supporters who share our belief in the power and potential of our transformational program, the young women we serve, and Maine’s future.”

The Honorable Olympia J. Snowe, Former U.S. Senator and Institute Founder, added,

“Kate has made an astounding addition to our staff, and I am thoroughly impressed by her care for our donors and our relationships with them, along with her vital attention to detail and evident passion for uplifting youth. I have no doubt she will grow our network of supporters and their role in our mission—to raise the confidence and aspirations of girls in our communities.”
