Former Maine Senator Olympia Snowe says the recent focus on sexual harassment and abuse of women around the country emphasizes the need to empower young girls.
Thursday, at the third annual “Olympia Snowe Leadership Institute” luncheon, the senator said it’s important to “lift up” the female leaders of the next generation.
The institute provides mentors and advisors for more than 350 high school girls in all sixteen counties in Maine.
“As a woman, I want to be able to help the younger women and to move ahead to be able to advance in life knowing that yes, you’re going to face some challenges and difficulties, that goes with the inevitable ebb and flow of life, there’s no straight line to success,” Snowe said.
