PORTLAND (WGME) – Tuesday, the Olympia Snowe Women’s Leadership Institute brought together more than 60 local students to lift up Maine’s future leaders.
The institute was founded by former Maine Senator Olympia Snowe five years ago, and works to support the aspirations of high school girls by developing them into local leaders.
Senator Snowe says making sure these young girls have the skillset they need is key.
“You can do whatever you want to do, when you have support, and people willing to support you,” Snowe said. “When you have a program like this, women advisors can make all the difference to overcome the hurdles and challenges that may come your way.”
The institute has grown to serve more than 500 young women at 36 high schools across all 16 Maine counties.
